Burlington, VT – The National Weather Service in Burlington has issued a Special Weather Statement for dense fog and a Hazardous Weather Outlook warning of slippery travel conditions across northern Vermont and portions of northern New York through Monday morning.
According to the NWS, areas of fog across the Champlain Valley may reduce visibility to a half mile or less at times through 7 a.m. Monday, creating hazardous driving conditions. Rain and fog will transition into a wintry mix later Monday afternoon, with the potential for light snow, sleet, and freezing rain into Monday night.
Temperatures will hover near 39°F overnight before dipping below freezing late Monday, raising the risk of ice accumulation on untreated roads and bridges. Forecasters also warn of isolated light snow accumulations and slick conditions in higher elevations of northern Vermont.
Winds from the west will increase up to 14 mph Tuesday, and snow showers are likely again by Wednesday, followed by a gradual warming trend later in the week.
Motorists are advised to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra distance for braking during the Monday morning commute.
