Burlington, Vermont – Gray skies hang low over Lake Champlain today, and the steady sound of rain could become a bigger concern by afternoon. Wet pavement, reduced visibility, and pockets of standing water may develop quickly as rounds of showers and thunderstorms move across northern Vermont.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, moderate to heavy rainfall may lead to isolated flooding across parts of northern Vermont and the Adirondacks. Additional rainfall totals between 0.50 and 1.50 inches are possible through Sunday, especially in areas that see repeated downpours.

Showers are expected to become widespread through the day. A few thunderstorms may mix in, producing brief bursts of heavier rainfall. Burlington is forecast to reach only the lower 70s as clouds and precipitation dominate much of the daylight period.

Drivers along Interstate 89, U.S. Route 2, and Route 7 should remain alert for ponding water and rapidly changing visibility. Allow extra travel time and avoid driving through flooded roadways. Even shallow water can conceal road hazards.

Sunday remains unsettled. Showers and thunderstorms are likely again, with temperatures climbing into the mid-70s. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, any stronger storm could deliver locally heavy rainfall and brief gusty winds. Tornado risk remains very low.

Conditions gradually improve Tuesday and Wednesday. Sunshine returns more frequently, and highs climb toward 80 degrees by midweek. After several damp days, residents may finally get a taste of early summer warmth.

Long-range outlooks suggest temperatures could trend above normal later next week across Vermont and northern New York.
