Burlington, Vt. – Light rain is expected to spread into northern Vermont by late Sunday morning, bringing damp conditions that could linger into the evening. The National Weather Service says most areas will see only a few hundredths of an inch, but locations along the Canadian border may pick up closer to half an inch.

According to the Weather Service in Burlington, rain chances rise sharply after 11 a.m., peaking between 1 and 5 p.m. in Burlington, Montpelier, and Middlebury. Probabilities climb even higher in towns such as Newport, Island Pond, and Massena, New York, where showers could be more persistent.

Travel impacts should remain minor, though wet roads may reduce visibility and slow traffic along I-89, I-91, and U.S. Route 7 during the afternoon. Residents heading to outdoor events or driving through higher elevations should keep rain gear handy and allow extra time.

Showers will taper from west to east by late evening, leaving behind only patchy dampness overnight. Another round of unsettled weather could develop midweek, keeping northern counties under close watch for updates.
