Burlington, Vermont – Roads and sidewalks are turning slick across Vermont and northern New York right now as freezing drizzle continues to coat surfaces just ahead of the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. Monday, with a light glaze of ice developing across central, northern and southern Vermont, along with parts of northern New York including Franklin, Clinton and Essex counties.

Cities such as Montpelier, Stowe, Rutland and White River Junction are seeing the greatest impacts, along with Saranac Lake and Lake Placid in New York. Even a thin layer of ice is enough to create dangerous travel, especially on bridges, overpasses and untreated secondary roads where temperatures remain below freezing.

Snow has already ended across the region, but lingering moisture is freezing on contact, leading to rapidly changing road conditions. Along corridors like I-89, I-91 and Route 7, drivers may encounter stretches that appear wet but are actually icy.

Residents are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance and use caution on sidewalks. There is also a low risk of isolated power issues if ice builds on elevated surfaces.

Conditions will improve after 8 a.m. as temperatures rise, though a few slick spots may linger into the late morning.
