Burlington, VT – Vermont residents are facing the coldest day of the season today, according to the National Weather Service in Burlington. Afternoon highs are expected to stay in the mid-40s to low 50s, with clear skies and a brisk morning breeze.

According to the NWS, temperatures will plummet overnight into the upper 20s and 30s, prompting Freeze Warnings across most of the region. The agency cautioned that frost and freezing conditions could damage sensitive outdoor plants and unprotected plumbing.

The cold snap marks the first widespread freeze event of the fall, signaling a transition to more typical October weather. Residents are urged to cover or bring in vegetation and to prepare for slippery conditions in frost-prone valleys early Thursday morning.

Forecasters expect a gradual warm-up tomorrow, with highs rebounding into the 50s and 60s under sunny skies. More stable, seasonable conditions are expected through the weekend.
