Burlington, VT – Soft gray clouds drift over Lake Champlain this early Sunday, a calm start before Vermont settles into a quiet but crisp stretch of late-October weather. The chill in the air carries a hint of what’s ahead — calm, frosty mornings followed by bright, mild afternoons as the state enters the final days before Halloween.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a few light showers may linger early Sunday before skies gradually clear. Highs reach the upper 40s today, warming slightly to near 50°F by Monday under partly sunny skies. The bigger story, though, is the cold: lows will dip to the low 30s each night, creating ideal conditions for widespread frost Monday and Tuesday mornings.

Residents are encouraged to protect sensitive plants and finish any late-season outdoor prep — the growing season has all but ended for most of northern Vermont.

From Tuesday through Wednesday, expect a stretch of nearly perfect fall days — mostly sunny, calm, and cool, with highs in the low 50s and crisp breezes off the lake. But by Thursday, a shift begins. Clouds increase ahead of a moisture-rich system expected to bring steady rain Thursday night into Friday.

That wet pattern could linger into Halloween evening, though mild air will accompany it — a small trade-off for trick-or-treaters. After all, a chilly November lies just beyond.
