Burlington, VT – Wind gusts topping 50 mph are slamming parts of Vermont and northern New York this Summer Solstice, raising the risk of downed tree limbs and power outages through early Friday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 2 p.m. today across much of the region. Rain showers will track eastward, primarily along the international border, as winds remain strongest from late morning through early afternoon.

Cities like Plattsburgh, St. Albans, and Barre could see gusts strong enough to damage trees and overhead lines. Travel may be affected by debris on roads, particularly in rural and forested areas. Utility crews are on alert for isolated outages due to falling branches. Temperatures are holding steady in the upper 60s to mid-70s—normal for late June—but residents are urged to secure outdoor items and delay outdoor work until gusts subside.

This is a late-season wind event for the region, more typical of spring conditions. Wind speeds are expected to drop by late afternoon, though scattered showers may linger into the evening near the Canadian border.

⚠️ Wind Advisories remain active through 2 p.m. Friday. Next update expected by late afternoon.
