Burlington, Vermont – Snow will begin coating roads across Rutland and Windsor counties by 1 a.m. Monday, setting up slippery travel and blowing snow before the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday for western and eastern Rutland and Windsor counties. Total snowfall between 3 and 5 inches is expected, with wind gusts reaching 35 mph. Those gusts may produce areas of blowing snow that reduce visibility, especially in open valleys and higher elevations.

Communities including Rutland, Fair Haven, Ludlow, Killington, Springfield and White River Junction could see snow-covered roads by daybreak. Route 7, U.S. 4 and Interstate 91 may become slick during heavier bursts, with conditions changing quickly over short distances. Both the Monday morning and evening commutes are likely to be impacted as snow continues through the afternoon.

Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check updated road conditions at NewEngland511.org before traveling.

Snow tapers toward Monday evening, but lingering gusts may keep patchy blowing snow in place until the advisory expires at 7 p.m. Monday. Additional updates are possible if snowfall rates increase.
