Burlington, Vermont – Rain will spread across Vermont this evening before quickly changing to snow overnight, creating slick travel conditions by the Friday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, rainfall totals will range from 0.10 to 0.33 inches in the Champlain Valley, with higher amounts between 0.50 and 0.75 inches across southern Vermont. As temperatures drop to near and below freezing overnight, rain will transition to snow, with most areas seeing a light coating up to 0.2 inches, while higher elevations could pick up as much as 3 inches.
Cities including Burlington, Montpelier, Rutland, and St. Johnsbury will see rapidly changing conditions after midnight, with wet roads potentially turning icy toward daybreak. Gusty north winds will increase late tonight, reaching 20 to 30 mph by Friday morning, adding to travel challenges.
Drivers should plan for reduced visibility and slick roads during the early commute, especially on untreated surfaces and mountain routes.
Conditions gradually improve later Friday, but additional advisories may be issued as colder air and gusty winds persist into the day.
