Burlington, VT – A fast-moving system will bring accumulating snow to parts of the North Country today, creating hazardous travel conditions—especially during the evening commute.

The National Weather Service in Burlington says snow will begin by late morning in northern New York before spreading into northern and north-central Vermont during the afternoon.

Widespread snowfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected, with 2 to 5 inches possible in parts of northern New York and northeastern Vermont.

The heaviest snow is expected between 3 PM and 7 PM, coinciding with the evening commute in areas like Montpelier, St. Johnsbury, and Newport.

Snowfall rates could reach up to 1 inch per hour, quickly reducing visibility and allowing roads to become snow-covered in a short amount of time.

Drivers should be prepared for slick and hazardous conditions, especially during peak travel hours.

Conditions are expected to improve later tonight as the system moves out, but caution is advised through the evening.
