Burlington, Vt. – Vermont will feel its first taste of early fall this week as nighttime temperatures dip into the 30s and 40s, raising the chance of frost in some areas. Drivers and early risers should also prepare for patchy fog to reduce visibility through midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, overnight lows tonight will settle in the upper 30s and 40s across much of the state, with cooler conditions expected tomorrow night. Areas in the Adirondacks and Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom could see frost develop late Tuesday into early Wednesday.
Cities including Burlington, Montpelier, and Rutland will remain mostly in the lower 40s tonight, while colder pockets in central and northeastern valleys may fall into the upper 30s. Commuters on I-89 and I-91 should use caution during the early morning hours when fog could make travel more difficult.
Residents are advised to cover sensitive plants or bring them indoors as temperatures continue to slide. Those living in rural valleys, where colder air tends to pool, face the highest risk for frost damage.
Chilly nights are expected to continue into midweek, with additional advisories possible if temperatures dip further.
