Burlington, Vermont – Relief is on the way for Vermont residents after sweltering 96-degree heat bakes Burlington through Tuesday evening, followed by strong thunderstorms overnight and a noticeable cooldown by Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday, with real-feel temperatures peaking near 100°F across Chittenden County. A cold front will push through late Tuesday, bringing widespread storms after 10 p.m. Some may produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Motorists along South End Road and U.S. Route 7 should use caution after sunset as wet conditions and sudden downpours could reduce visibility.

Wednesday ushers in much-needed change. Expect mostly sunny skies with a high near 82°F and north winds around 6 mph, making it feel significantly more comfortable. Cooler air continues overnight into Thursday, with lows dropping into the upper 50s and a return to seasonable summer conditions.

Looking ahead, Thursday and Friday stay dry and pleasant with highs in the mid-70s, before another round of showers arrives Saturday afternoon. Residents are encouraged to remain weather-aware through the weekend as conditions shift again.

⚠️ Stay hydrated, check on neighbors during heat events, and never leave pets or children in vehicles.
