Burlington, VT – A Special Weather Statement remains in effect through 7:30 a.m. Friday for portions of northeastern Franklin, northeastern Grand Isle, and northern Clinton Counties, according to the National Weather Service in Burlington.
Snow showers are moving across the region this morning, creating visibility under one mile and winds up to 25 mph. The weather service warns that the combination of blowing snow and rapidly changing conditions may make travel hazardous, especially for morning commuters along Interstate 87 between mile markers 166 and 175.
Radar data showed bands of snow extending from Moores to near Burke Village, moving east at about 25 mph. Communities including Champlain, Alburgh, Chateaugay, and Ellenburg are likely to experience brief but intense bursts of snow through early morning.
Drivers are urged to reduce speed, use headlights, and allow extra travel time until conditions improve later this morning. Visibility is expected to gradually increase as the snow showers taper off by mid-morning.
