Montpelier, Vt. – Southern Vermont saw heavy rainfall through Friday afternoon, with totals exceeding 2.7 inches in parts of Windham County and prompting local officials to monitor for potential flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, rainfall totals ranged from less than 0.25 inches in the northwestern counties to over 2.5 inches across the southern tier. The heaviest bands stretched through Bennington, Windham, and parts of Windsor counties, where totals between 1.8 and 2.7 inches were widespread.

In towns like Brattleboro, Wilmington, and Manchester, the rain caused low-lying roads and storm drains to overflow temporarily. Crews worked Friday to clear debris and check for waterlogged culverts. No major flood damage had been reported by late afternoon, though residents were urged to avoid flood-prone areas and report any issues.

Meanwhile, rainfall across Chittenden, Franklin, and Grand Isle counties remained under half an inch, with minimal impact reported. State Route 9 and U.S. Route 7 saw minor pooling in some areas, but no closures as of 3 p.m.

Showers have largely tapered off, but officials say saturated ground could lead to isolated runoff issues overnight. Additional updates will be issued if flood advisories are posted.
