Burlington, VT – Residents across Vermont and northern New York should prepare for a cold night as the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple frost advisories through Thursday morning.

According to the NWS in Burlington, a new frost advisory is in effect from midnight tonight until 8 a.m. Thursday for much of central, northwest, and southern Vermont, along with portions of northern New York including St. Lawrence, Franklin, Clinton, and Essex counties. Temperatures are forecast to dip to 32 degrees, which may cause frost formation.

In addition, an ongoing frost advisory for Essex County, Vermont, remains in effect until 7 a.m. Wednesday morning. Low temperatures in this region are expected to reach near 33 degrees before warming later in the day.

Frost poses a risk to sensitive vegetation and crops. Gardeners and farmers are advised to take protective measures such as covering plants or bringing them indoors. “Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered,” the NWS warned in its statement.

Residents in areas including Burlington, Plattsburgh, Montpelier, Rutland, Springfield, and Malone should expect early morning frost on both Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
