Montpelier, VT – Snow, sleet, and freezing rain are making travel hazardous across Vermont and northern New York as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, snowfall totals of 2 to 6 inches are expected, with ice accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch. The storm is affecting areas including Montpelier, Rutland, Plattsburgh, and Lake Placid.
The heaviest snow is expected in the morning before transitioning to sleet and freezing rain, leading to slick roads and dangerous travel conditions. By mid-afternoon, the storm will taper off into scattered rain and snow showers. Bridges and overpasses are particularly susceptible to icing.
Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution. Those traveling in Vermont can check New England 511 (newengland511.org) for road conditions, while New York travelers can visit 511NY (511ny.org) for updates.
Stay prepared for delays and difficult driving conditions through the evening as crews work to clear the roads.
