Burlington, Vermont – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect early Sunday as mixed precipitation continues to create slick travel conditions across parts of Vermont and northern New York.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, the advisory affects Western Essex County in New York and Eastern Rutland and Western Windsor counties in Vermont and is scheduled to expire at 10 a.m. EST Sunday.

Forecasters report additional snow and sleet accumulations up to one inch, along with light ice glazing in some locations. The wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected to gradually transition to light snow before ending later this morning.

Road conditions are expected to remain hazardous, especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated surfaces. Higher elevations are likely to see more persistent slick spots due to colder temperatures. Communities including Lake Placid, Killington, Ludlow, Bethel, Newcomb, and East Wallingford may experience variable conditions depending on elevation and precipitation type.

The National Weather Service advises motorists to slow down and use caution, noting that even light ice accumulations can significantly increase crash risk. Visibility may also be reduced at times during snowfall.

Travelers are encouraged to check the latest road conditions before heading out. Updates for Vermont are available at newengland511.org, while New York road conditions can be found at 511ny.org.

Winter weather advisories are issued when conditions are expected to cause travel difficulties but are not severe enough to meet warning criteria. Even so, officials stress that minor accumulations can still lead to dangerous driving conditions during the morning hours.
