Vermont’s crisp, near-freezing start is quickly giving way to a damp, wind-driven pattern, and roads could turn slick by late afternoon as rain moves in. The air feels sharp now, but conditions are already shifting under thickening clouds.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, rain chances climb to 100% tonight with south winds increasing to 18–23 mph and gusts up to 35 mph. The strongest gusts are expected in the Champlain Valley and along Highway 11 in northern New York.

Burlington reaches near 51°F before showers develop after 4 p.m., then steadier rain takes over into the evening. Drivers along I-89 and Route 7 should prepare for wet pavement and reduced visibility. Plan extra time and keep headlights on in heavier bursts.

Monday stays unsettled, with an 80% chance of showers and gusts again nearing 35 mph. Light rainfall totals may not seem significant, but repeated wet periods will keep roads slick and increase the risk of minor flooding in poor drainage areas.

By Tuesday, temperatures rise into the mid-60s, and rain chances range from 30% to 70% through the day. A few embedded thunderstorms are possible, especially later in the day. Conditions may deteriorate quickly during heavier showers.

Showers linger into Wednesday and Thursday, keeping the region locked in a damp spring pattern. Despite the rain, a warming trend signals a shift toward more seasonable air.

Looking ahead, no widespread severe hazards are expected after early-week winds, but wet ground and gusty conditions will continue to impact travel. Heading out later today? Watch for sudden wind gusts near open areas and bridges.
