Lake Placid, New York – Snow-covered highways and slick mountain passes will continue to slow travel across the North Country through 10 a.m. as the final stretch of a winter storm winds down.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. Saturday for northern New York, including St. Lawrence, Clinton and Essex counties, and much of central and eastern Vermont. Storm totals range from 6 to 11 inches, with the heaviest snow falling overnight.

Roads across the Adirondacks, including Route 73 near Lake Placid, I-87 through Plattsburgh and Route 9N along Lake Champlain, remain snow-packed. In Vermont, Interstate 89 near Montpelier, Route 7 through Addison County and Route 4 near Killington could see slick bridges and untreated secondary roads during the morning hours.

Temperatures hovering below freezing will keep surfaces icy, especially on overpasses and rural roads. Officials urge drivers to slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check 511ny.org or newengland511.org for real-time road conditions before heading out.

Snow will taper by mid-morning, but icy patches may persist into the afternoon as crews continue clearing operations.
