Burlington, Vermont – Residents across Vermont and New Hampshire could experience an unusual stretch of early-season heat within the first full week of April as temperatures climb into the upper 70s and low 80s.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, northern New England falls within a 40–60% probability zone for above-normal temperatures through mid-April. This signals a sustained period of warmth more typical of late spring or early summer.

In Vermont, Burlington and Montpelier may see afternoon highs reaching the upper 70s to low 80s, especially in Champlain Valley locations where warmer air can settle. Across New Hampshire, Manchester and Concord are also expected to see prolonged warmth, with similar readings extending into southern parts of the state. Northern and higher elevation areas, including the White Mountains, will be slightly cooler but still above seasonal norms.

The extended warmth could accelerate snowmelt in higher terrain and increase water flow in rivers and streams, while also prompting an early start to outdoor activities across the region.

Residents should stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor work during peak afternoon hours, and remain aware of rapidly changing conditions in mountainous areas.

This early-season heat pattern is expected to persist through mid-April, with additional updates likely if temperatures continue trending above normal across northern New England.
