Vermont Man Arrested for Driving Wrong Way on I-293 in New Hampshire

Troopers say a Vermont man was taken into custody after traveling south in northbound lanes.

Bedford, NH – A Vermont man was arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly driving the wrong way on Interstate 293 in Bedford, according to the New Hampshire State Police.

Authorities say the incident occurred just before 1 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2025, when Trooper Madelynn Theve, of Troop B, spotted a vehicle heading south in the northbound lanes of I-293.

According to state police, Trooper Theve activated her emergency lights and successfully stopped the vehicle near mile marker 3.2. The driver, identified as Benjamin Mueller, 36, of White River Junction, Vermont, was taken into custody without incident.

Police said Mueller was charged with felony reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and reckless driving. He is scheduled to appear in Merrimack District Court on November 4, 2025.

No injuries were reported as a result of the wrong-way incident, officials confirmed. Authorities did not release details about what led Mueller to drive in the wrong direction.

New Hampshire State Police are reminding drivers to remain alert during overnight travel hours and to report any erratic driving immediately by calling 911.
