Burlington, VT – Residents across northern Vermont and New York’s St. Lawrence Valley should brace for dangerous heat beginning Tuesday morning, with heat index values pushing into the mid-90s and little relief expected overnight. A Heat Advisory will be in effect from 8 a.m. Tuesday until 8 a.m. Wednesday, with the National Weather Service warning of an increased risk of heat-related illnesses.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, hot and humid air will dominate through Tuesday evening, with overnight lows only cooling to around 70 degrees. This limited nighttime relief means heat impacts will be cumulative, particularly for those without access to air conditioning. The advisory covers areas including Burlington, South Hero, St. Albans, Vergennes, Middlebury, Swanton, and nearby communities.

Officials urge residents to drink plenty of fluids, avoid strenuous activity during peak heat, and check on neighbors and vulnerable individuals. Outdoor workers and those participating in summer events should take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces.

A weak cold front is expected to arrive late Wednesday, bringing cooler temperatures and scattered showers. Until then, heat remains the primary concern. Additional advisories may be issued if conditions persist.
