Burlington, VT – Vermont residents are waking up to a chilly start this Wednesday, October 1, as a Frost Advisory takes effect tonight into Thursday morning. Temperatures could fall as low as 32°F, threatening sensitive plants and gardens across northern New York, central Vermont, and southern Vermont.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory is in effect from midnight through 8 a.m. Thursday. Homeowners should cover or bring in plants to prevent frost damage. In addition, the Champlain Valley faces fire weather concerns today as gusty winds combine with low humidity, increasing the risk of brush and grass fires.

Despite the cold start, the extended outlook offers a brighter picture. Thursday will be sunny with highs near 64°F, while Friday warms to 71°F under mostly clear skies. By Saturday, temperatures climb into the upper 70s with plenty of sunshine, perfect for fall activities and early Halloween decorating. Sunday continues the trend with highs around 80°F before slightly cooler air returns early next week.

Drivers should note breezy north winds today may impact travel along I-89 and I-91, especially for high-profile vehicles. Rural areas with dry grass and leaves are most at risk for small fires spreading quickly.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated with local forecasts and take precautions for both frost-sensitive plants and outdoor burning restrictions.
