Hyde Park, VT – A Florida man was taken into custody in Lamoille County after allegedly being found unresponsive at the wheel and later crashing into a residence, authorities said.
According to the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded Sunday to Church Street in Hyde Park for a report of a vehicle parked in the roadway. Deputies said they located the driver, identified as Raul Gutierrez, 44, of Florida, unresponsive at the wheel.
When deputies attempted to place the vehicle in park, it began rolling toward a home. Authorities said one deputy was dragged while trying to steer the vehicle to safety and sustained minor injuries. The vehicle stopped after striking both a tree and a house.
Deputies said Narcan was administered to Gutierrez before he was taken to Copley Hospital for treatment. He was later processed on suspicion of driving under the influence. Deputies also assisted Northern Vermont Medical Services in providing emergency care at the scene.
Authorities said Vermont State Police are assisting with the crash investigation, which remains pending toxicology results.
The sheriff’s department confirmed no one inside the residence was hurt during the crash.
