Burlington, Vermont – 25°F temperatures and scattered snow showers are creating slick travel conditions through Saturday afternoon, as gusty winds up to 25 mph reduce visibility across northern Vermont. Roads may become briefly snow-covered in heavier bursts, especially during the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, unseasonably cold conditions will persist through the day, with highs only reaching the mid-20s to mid-30s across the region. Scattered snow showers are expected to develop this afternoon, accompanied by west winds of 5 to 15 mph and gusts up to 25 mph.
The greatest impacts are expected along Interstate 89 from Burlington to Montpelier and along U.S. Route 7 and Route 2, where brief snow showers could create rapidly changing road conditions. Higher elevations, including the Green Mountains and areas near Stowe and Smugglers’ Notch, may see more persistent snow and reduced visibility.
Drivers should be prepared for sudden slick spots, especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated secondary roads. Outdoor plans may also be affected by cold temperatures and gusty winds.
Snow shower activity will taper off later this evening, but cold conditions will continue overnight. Additional chilly weather is expected into Sunday, with gradual improvement early next week
