Northfield, VT – A cold case homicide investigation is drawing renewed attention more than two decades after the disappearance and death of a Northfield man whose body was discovered by a hunter.

Elwyn White, 40, was reported missing on August 21, 2001, by his roommate. His remains were later found in a shallow grave off Berlin Pond Road in Northfield on May 1, 2002, according to the Vermont State Police. A turkey hunter made the discovery, prompting a homicide investigation.

Authorities confirmed White’s death was ruled a homicide, though no arrests have been made and the case remains unsolved. Law enforcement officials have not publicly released details about the cause of death or possible suspects.

Vermont State Police are urging the public to come forward with any information related to White’s death or other unsolved homicides in the state. The Major Crimes Unit is actively seeking leads and tips that could help bring closure to the case.

White’s disappearance and subsequent discovery remain one of the region’s lingering mystery homicides. Authorities say even small pieces of information could assist in moving the case forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Vermont State Police Major Crimes Unit.
