BURLINGTON, VT – A winter storm is set to bring snow and a wintry mix to northern Vermont overnight Friday into Saturday, potentially impacting travel and weekend plans. Snowfall totals of 2 to 4 inches are expected, with higher amounts possible in localized areas.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow will begin late Friday evening before transitioning into a rain-snow mix early Saturday. Road conditions, especially on Interstate 89 and U.S. Route 2, could become slippery, with reduced visibility during the morning commute. Winds will also pick up, with gusts reaching 30 mph.
By Saturday afternoon, precipitation will taper off, with cloudy conditions and temperatures reaching the high 30s. Drivers should exercise caution on untreated roads and be prepared for changing conditions.
Looking ahead, Sunday will bring mostly sunny skies but frigid temperatures, with a high near 11°F and overnight lows dropping below zero. Monday remains cold but dry, while another storm system could bring rain and snow to the region by Tuesday and Wednesday.
Residents are advised to check Vermont 511 for updated road conditions and allow extra time for travel. Snowplows will be active, but untreated roads may remain slick. Those heading outdoors should bundle up and remain aware of icy spots.
