FILLMORE, Calif. (Dec. 11, 2025) — A small earthquake swarm was recorded Thursday afternoon in the Los Padres National Forest, northwest of Fillmore and about 50 miles northwest of Los Angeles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

At least six quakes struck between 12:21 p.m. and 12:31 p.m. local time, with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.1. The quakes occurred roughly 13 to 14 kilometers northwest of Fillmore at depths near 10 kilometers (6 miles).

The strongest of the sequence, a magnitude 3.1, hit at 12:27 p.m., followed closely by several aftershocks of similar strength. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office had not issued any alerts as of Thursday afternoon.

Seismic activity of this size is common in Southern California, though a short burst of closely timed quakes — known as a swarm — can draw attention from scientists monitoring the region’s complex fault systems.

The USGS reported that shaking from the events would likely have been lightly felt in Fillmore, Santa Paula, and Ojai, and possibly weakly noticed as far south as Thousand Oaks.

Residents can report shaking or impacts to the USGS “Did You Feel It?” system at earthquake.usgs.gov.
