Fort Wayne, Indiana – Multiple chances for snow are expected across northern Indiana through Thursday, with the greatest accumulation potential south of US-30.

According to the US National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, gusty south-southwest winds up to 35 mph will continue today, producing breezy conditions before snow chances return tonight.

Light snow is possible north of US-30 tonight, though accumulations are expected to remain under 1 inch. Farther south, precipitation may fall as rain or a rain/snow mix depending on surface temperatures.

Another system Wednesday into Thursday is expected to bring more widespread snow chances. Forecasters indicate around 1 to 2 inches of accumulation are possible, with the best chances and greatest totals south of US-30, including areas near Fort Wayne and Warsaw.

High temperatures this week are forecast to range from the 30s into the low 40s, which may limit overall accumulation but could still create slick travel during periods of steady snowfall.

Travel impacts may develop along US-30 between Valparaiso and Fort Wayne, US-31 near South Bend, US-20 near Elkhart, and I-94 in northwest Indiana if precipitation transitions to snow.

Winds combined with fluctuating temperatures may also lead to brief visibility reductions and patchy slushy roads.

The timing could affect commuters and school transportation routes during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning travel periods.

Officials advise monitoring updated forecasts as small shifts in temperature could change precipitation type and snow totals locally.
