Phoenix, Ariz. – Summer-like heat is gripping Phoenix into early October, with temperatures near 100 degrees expected Friday before easing slightly this weekend. The stretch of unseasonable warmth is raising concerns for outdoor workers, vulnerable residents, and those attending large weekend events across the Valley.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, Friday could top out near 99 degrees, just shy of daily records. Breezes may pick up in the afternoon, with gusts reaching 20 mph west of downtown and along stretches of I-10. Nights will bring some relief, dipping into the upper 60s and low 70s.

The heat will persist into early next week, with highs in the upper 80s to mid-90s through Monday. Clear skies and light winds will dominate the period, maintaining dry conditions that could increase fire danger in outlying desert counties. Motorists on rural highways should remain alert to sudden dust pockets where winds funnel through open terrain.

NWS officials urge residents to take standard precautions: limit strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and check on neighbors without reliable cooling. Pets and children should never be left in parked vehicles, where interior temperatures climb rapidly.

A modest change is expected by midweek, when a weak disturbance could bring more clouds and slightly cooler afternoons. Until then, the Valley will see a prolonged taste of summer deep into fall.
