Vail, CO – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Colorado’s central mountain ranges, including the Gore, Elkhead, and Park Mountains, beginning at 5 p.m. Friday and lasting through 8 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.
Forecasters say snow accumulations between 4 and 10 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts up to 8 inches over Vail Pass. Winds could gust up to 45 mph, reducing visibility and causing blowing snow at higher elevations.
Communities including Aspen, Snowmass, Vail, and Minturn may experience slick roads and difficult travel conditions, especially on mountain passes and exposed ridges. The advisory notes that evening travel could be hazardous, with blowing snow potentially downing tree branches in some areas.
“Slow down and use caution while traveling,” the weather service warned, urging motorists to check 511 for the latest Colorado road updates before heading into the mountains.
The storm is expected to taper off by early Saturday morning, with lingering flurries and cold temperatures persisting into the weekend. Ski resorts in the region could benefit from fresh snowfall, but travel delays are likely for those heading into the high country Friday night.
