Utica, New York – Water levels along creeks and rivers could rise quickly by Tuesday morning, putting low-lying roads and neighborhoods at risk across Oneida County.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Flood Watch remains in effect for both northern and southern Oneida County from Tuesday morning through Wednesday evening. Heavy rain falling on an already deep snowpack is expected to accelerate melting, increasing runoff into area waterways.

Utica, Rome, and Boonville are among the communities most likely to see impacts, especially near smaller streams that can overflow with little warning. The Mohawk River and surrounding tributaries will need close monitoring as flows increase and approach critical levels.

Periods of steady rain beginning Tuesday morning could create ponding on roadways and reduce visibility during the morning and evening commutes. Flood-prone areas, including underpasses and poor drainage zones, may become impassable if water rises quickly.

Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roads and to prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Those living near creeks or rivers should be ready to act if warnings are issued.

The flood threat will persist through Wednesday evening, with additional advisories possible as runoff continues to move through the region.
