Salt Lake City, UT – A winter weather advisory remains in effect across northern Utah, with snow expected to continue through Friday morning, creating hazardous travel conditions. Some areas could see up to 6 inches of accumulation by noon Friday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Salt Lake City, the advisory impacts the Northern Wasatch Front, Salt Lake Valley, Tooele and Rush Valleys, and parts of the Wasatch Back. Snowfall is expected to range from 1 to 4 inches in most locations, with locally higher amounts exceeding 6 inches along eastern benches and areas influenced by lake effect snow bands.

The snow began Thursday evening with an initial burst of 1 to 2 inches, followed by a prolonged period of lake effect snow through the early morning hours Friday. Areas south of Interstate 80 in Uinta County, Wyoming, could see additional accumulations of 3 to 6 inches.

Motorists should prepare for winter driving conditions, as slick roads and reduced visibility could make travel difficult, particularly during the Friday morning commute. The Utah Department of Transportation advises drivers to slow down and check road conditions at udottraffic.utah.gov before traveling.

The advisory is set to expire at noon MDT Friday. Residents are encouraged to exercise caution and allow extra travel time during the morning hours.
