Salt Lake City, UT – A potent winter storm is expected to blanket Utah’s high terrain with heavy snow beginning Friday night, bringing significant travel disruptions across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 8 p.m. Friday to 4 p.m. Saturday. The advisory covers the Wasatch Mountains north and south of I-80, the Western Uinta Mountains, and the Wasatch Plateau/Book Cliffs. Total snow accumulations are projected between 5 to 10 inches, with localized amounts reaching up to 16 inches in areas such as the upper Cottonwoods and Bear River Range.

Snowfall will intensify overnight Friday and continue into Saturday morning, tapering to scattered showers by Saturday afternoon. Mountain routes—including Mirror Lake Highway, Logan Summit, and Indian Canyon—are expected to become hazardous. Traction laws may be enforced during peak snowfall.

Drivers are urged to slow down, use caution, and check the Utah Department of Transportation’s road conditions site at udottraffic.utah.gov before heading into affected zones. Residents planning travel or outdoor recreation in the impacted areas should consider delaying plans until the storm passes.
