Salt Lake City, Utah – Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect across much of northern and central Utah as a widespread snow event brings hazardous travel conditions throughout Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, valley locations including the Salt Lake Valley, Cache Valley, Tooele and Rush Valleys, and Northern Wasatch Front can expect trace to 2 inches of snow, with up to 6 inches on benches and 2 to 6 inches across the Wasatch Back. These advisories are in effect from 2 a.m. to 11 p.m. MST Thursday.
In Eastern Juab and Millard counties, snowfall totals of 2 to 5 inches are expected from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, impacting the I-15 corridor near Nephi, Fillmore, and Scipio.
Mountain areas will see the greatest impacts. The Wasatch Mountains, Western Uinta Mountains, and Wasatch Plateau/Book Cliffs are forecast to receive 6 to 12 inches of snow, with locally higher totals up to 18 to 20 inches in the upper Cottonwoods and Bear River Range. Advisories in these zones extend through Thursday evening, with some lasting until 11 p.m. MST.
The Central and Southern Mountains, including areas near Brian Head, Fish Lake, Joes Valley, and Alton, are expected to receive 4 to 12 inches of snow during the day Thursday.
Winter driving conditions are expected statewide, with the Thursday morning commute most affected along I-15, I-80, and mountain passes. Lake-effect snow south and southeast of the Great Salt Lake may add 1 to 3 inches Thursday night into early Friday.
