Salt Lake City, UT – A powerful winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall to Utah’s mountain regions, with accumulations of 1 to 2 feet expected and some areas surpassing 3 feet. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for multiple regions, including the Wasatch Mountains, Western Uinta Mountains, Wasatch Plateau/Book Cliffs, and Central Mountains, lasting from 11 a.m. Thursday to 5 p.m. Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service, travel could be treacherous, particularly in higher elevations where heavy snowfall will create dangerous road conditions. Areas such as Alta, Brighton, and Mirror Lake Highway are expected to receive the heaviest snowfall, with traction laws potentially enacted to ensure driver safety.
For the Wasatch Back, including Park City, Heber City, and Huntsville, the storm will bring 8 to 14 inches of snow, with locally higher amounts near 18 inches around Park City. Lower elevations, including the Ogden, Heber, and Morgan Valleys, may see snow transition to rain by Friday afternoon.
Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and keep emergency supplies in their vehicles. For updated road conditions, visit UDOT Traffic.
