Salt Lake City, UT – A winter storm warning is in effect for Utah’s Central and Southern Mountains, with heavy snowfall anticipated from 9 p.m. Thursday until noon Saturday. The National Weather Service predicts total snow accumulations ranging from 8 to 16 inches, with up to 22 inches expected in higher elevations of the Tushar Range, including areas near Brian Head and Boulder Mountain.

Snow rates could reach 1 to 2 inches per hour overnight Thursday into early Friday, making travel hazardous along mountain routes, particularly on I-15 and I-70. Road conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly as heavy snow reduces visibility and creates slick and potentially dangerous driving conditions.

Drivers are advised to delay travel if possible. If travel is necessary, it’s essential to be prepared for emergency situations. Keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle, and ensure your car is winterized.

To stay updated on road conditions, visit the Utah Department of Transportation website at udottraffic.utah.gov. As heavy snowfall and strong winds impact the region, residents and travelers should remain vigilant and monitor local weather forecasts for further updates.
