Salt Lake City, UT – A powerful winter storm is set to bring up to 2 feet of snow to Utah’s mountain regions starting late Friday night, leading to hazardous travel conditions through Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Monday for the Wasatch Mountains south of I-80 and the Western Uinta Mountains, including Alta, Brighton, Moon Lake, and Mirror Lake Highway. Snow levels will rise throughout the weekend, making conditions increasingly difficult, especially in higher elevations.

The storm is expected to make travel dangerous, with traction laws potentially enforced. Motorists should carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water, in case of delays or road closures.

By Sunday, snowfall will become denser as snow levels climb to 8,000–8,500 feet, increasing the risk of road closures and hazardous conditions. Those traveling through the affected regions should monitor updates from the Utah Department of Transportation at udottraffic.utah.gov for real-time road conditions.

Residents and travelers are advised to plan accordingly as this significant winter weather event unfolds across northern Utah.
