Salt Lake City, UT – Snowfall is set to impact the Utah mountains and Wasatch Back starting Monday night, potentially complicating travel. Residents in mountainous regions, especially north of I-80, should brace for up to 12 inches of snow in the Ogden area. The National Weather Service has advised caution as snow showers are likely to intensify by Tuesday morning, impacting visibility and road safety.
According to the National Weather Service, precipitation will start as rain in lower areas Monday evening, transitioning to snow in the mountains overnight. By Tuesday morning, mixed rain and snow conditions are likely in Salt Lake City, with temperatures around 45°F. Commuters are urged to drive carefully as wet and potentially icy roads could lead to difficult travel.
The weather warning extends through Wednesday, with snowfall expected to vary by region. The Upper Cottonwoods could see up to 16 inches of snow, while areas in the Wasatch Back and Uinta County anticipate 2 to 5 inches, with localized peaks of up to 8 inches near Park City. Those heading into higher elevations should ensure they have winter survival kits and traction devices for their vehicles.
Beyond snow, residents in southwest Utah should prepare for gusty winds up to 50 mph near Cedar City and Milford on Monday evening. These winds could pose a risk to unsecured outdoor items, including Halloween decorations, and may cause power outages. The National Weather Service recommends securing loose items and being mindful of potential road closures due to blowing dust.
As temperatures drop toward midweek, residents can expect partly sunny conditions on Thursday, providing a temporary respite. However, a slight chance of rain returns Thursday night, with ongoing weather patterns suggesting a chilly and wet start to November.
