Salt Lake City, UT – Utah’s mountains are bracing for another winter storm this weekend, with heavy snowfall expected from Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for mountainous areas south of Interstate 80, in effect from noon Saturday to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The advisory forecasts snow accumulations between 5 and 10 inches across the mountains, with certain high-elevation areas, like the Upper Cottonwoods, possibly receiving up to 16 inches. Snowfall is anticipated to start Saturday afternoon and will gradually taper off Sunday night.
Drivers are urged to prepare for winter road conditions. The NWS recommends slowing down, allowing extra travel time, and equipping vehicles with winter survival kits. Mountain routes may also have traction restrictions in place. Travelers are encouraged to check road conditions before heading out, as snow and ice could impact travel.
