Salt Lake City, Utah – A stretch of hot and mostly dry days in northern Utah will give way to thunderstorms and a cooling trend starting late this weekend. Saturday’s highs will reach the upper 90s in Salt Lake City, but storms are expected to spread across the Wasatch Front by Sunday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, the storm system will bring a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms Sunday into Sunday night, with rain likely continuing through Monday. Winds will remain light, but heavy downpours and lightning could impact travel on I-15 and surrounding highways during the evening hours.
Cities from Ogden to Provo should prepare for slower commutes and the potential for ponding water on roads. Outdoor events Sunday afternoon and evening face the highest risk of disruption. Residents are urged to monitor alerts and avoid exposed areas during thunderstorms.
Conditions will cool noticeably next week, with highs dropping into the low 80s by Tuesday and Wednesday as showers persist. Additional storm chances are possible into midweek, keeping ground saturated and elevating minor flood concerns in low-lying areas.
Storm chances remain in place through at least Wednesday, with the next update expected early Monday.
