Salt Lake City, UT – Utah residents should prepare for a weekend of potentially severe weather as an isolated flash flood threat looms over far southwestern Utah today, with the risk expanding across much of southern and central Utah by Saturday and Sunday. Flash flooding is most likely in areas such as slot canyons, normally dry washes, and regions near recent burn scars.
According to the US National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, today’s flash flood risks are particularly high in southwestern Utah, including cities like Kanab, Cedar City, and St. George. By Saturday and Sunday, these risks will spread to include the entirety of southern and central Utah.
In addition to the flash flood threat, Salt Lake City is experiencing extreme heat. Today’s high is expected to reach 96°F, with temperatures climbing to 98°F on Saturday and slightly cooling to 97°F on Sunday. The heat will continue into next week, with highs of 100°F on Monday and 101°F on Tuesday, before slightly dropping to the high 90s midweek.
