Salt Lake City, UT – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect tonight for Utah’s Southern Mountains, where fresh rounds of snowfall are expected to continue through early Wednesday. The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City says the advisory extends until 5 a.m. Wednesday, with accumulating snow likely to impact high-elevation travel across the region.

According to the weather service, areas including Brian Head, the Pine Valley Mountains, and Boulder Mountain will see an additional 3 to 6 inches of snow above 8,000 feet, with isolated higher totals up to 8 inches possible at the tallest peaks favored by southerly flow. Elevations between 7,000 and 8,000 feet may receive 1 to 3 inches of fresh accumulation.

Forecasters warn that winter driving conditions are likely on all mountain routes above 8,000 feet tonight. The most significant impacts are expected during periods of heavier snowfall, when visibility may rapidly decrease and road surfaces could become snow-covered or icy. Drivers heading to or from the higher ski and recreation areas should be prepared for delays and reduced traction.

Road conditions may vary throughout the night as showers pass over the region. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) recommends monitoring udottraffic.utah.gov for updated travel alerts and any restrictions affecting mountain passes.

Officials advise slowing down, using extra caution, and allowing additional stopping distance on slick roads. Even well-equipped vehicles may struggle during peak snowfall rates, especially on steep or winding terrain.

Snow showers are forecast to taper off early Wednesday as the advisory expires. The National Weather Service provides additional snowfall graphics and probabilistic forecasts at weather.gov/slc/winter.
