Salt Lake City, Utah – Utah residents should prepare for a dramatic weather swing this weekend as a cold, moisture-rich storm system rolls in, dropping temperatures and delivering valley rain and high-elevation snow by Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, highs on Friday and early Saturday could reach up to 5°F above average before plummeting by 10 to 15°F through Monday. The sudden shift will be accompanied by widespread precipitation, with snow likely across mountainous areas and rain expected in lower elevations, especially Sunday.

Communities along the Wasatch Front, including Ogden and Provo, may see wet roads and reduced visibility, while ski areas in Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons could receive significant snowfall. Drivers are advised to use caution, particularly Sunday night into Monday, as slushy or icy conditions may develop.

Starting Tuesday, high pressure will build in, bringing drier weather and a sharp warming trend. Temperatures could rebound by 10°F or more above seasonal norms later in the week.

The NWS urges residents to monitor updates through Monday as additional advisories may be issued depending on storm track and intensity.
