Salt Lake City, Utah – Strong storms are expected to return to Salt Lake City early Monday, with flash flooding, gusty winds, and thunder making travel hazardous through midweek. Residents should prepare for road delays, especially along I-15 and I-80, as showers build throughout the day and intensify into Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and isolated thunderstorms will begin late Sunday and grow more widespread by Monday afternoon. Rain chances spike to 80% Monday, with localized flash flooding possible in low-lying and poor-drainage areas. A 90% chance of storms holds into Tuesday, followed by more scattered downpours Wednesday.

Salt Lake County and surrounding areas—including West Valley, Sandy, and Bountiful—could see up to an inch of rainfall by Wednesday morning. Commuters should expect reduced visibility and wet pavement on major roadways, especially during the morning and evening rush.

Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, check alerts regularly, and avoid driving through standing water. Have flashlights and emergency kits ready in case of brief power outages tied to lightning.

Showers will linger into midweek before conditions improve slightly by Thursday. Another storm round is possible late Friday into early Saturday.
