Salt Lake City, UT – The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Wasatch Mountains, Wasatch Back, and Western Uinta Mountains, effective from late Thursday night through late Saturday night.
Forecasters warn of heavy snow, with accumulations of 1 to 2 feet, and locally up to 30 inches in the upper Cottonwoods, Bear River Range, and Ogden area mountains. The Western Uinta Mountains could see 8 to 18 inches, while Park City and Heber Valley are expected to receive 6 to 12 inches, with 2 to 6 inches at lower elevations.
The storm will begin late Thursday and intensify Friday, with snow levels starting near 4,000 feet before rising to 6,000 feet by Saturday afternoon. Travel could become very difficult, particularly along Parleys Summit, Mirror Lake Highway, Logan Summit, and I-80 mountain passes.
The National Weather Service cautions that traction laws may be enacted and advises drivers to prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions.
