Salt Lake City, UT – A winter weather advisory remains in effect across Utah’s Southern Mountains as up to 12 inches of snow are expected before the system clears late Thursday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, the advisory continues through 9 p.m. MDT Thursday and covers high-elevation areas including Brian Head and Alton. Snow accumulations are forecast to range between 6 and 12 inches, with the heaviest snowfall expected during the evening and overnight hours.

Travelers should prepare for difficult conditions on mountain routes, especially during peak snow periods. The Utah Department of Transportation advises motorists to slow down and use caution. UDOT’s traffic website, udottraffic.utah.gov, offers up-to-date road status and closures.

This late-season system poses challenges for spring travelers, particularly those heading into the mountains for recreation or holiday activities. Visibility may be reduced, and snow-packed roads could create delays or hazards.

Residents and visitors in the Southern Mountains should monitor weather updates and postpone nonessential travel until the advisory expires. Snow is expected to taper off by Thursday night, with clearer skies likely by Friday morning.
