Salt Lake City, Utah – Utah’s capital is in for a brutal heat spike as temperatures soar to 99°F by Tuesday afternoon, July 29th, triggering a summer weather alert for Salt Lake City and surrounding communities. Residents are urged to limit time outdoors and stay hydrated as peak heat settles in after 2 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service, the high-pressure ridge intensifying over the Great Basin will drive up temperatures across Salt Lake County, with light southeast winds shifting southwest later in the day. Air quality may decline during the afternoon, especially along the I-15 corridor through Salt Lake and West Valley City.
Clear skies and dry air will offer little relief overnight, with temperatures only dropping to the upper 60s. While there’s no rain in sight, prolonged heat can strain local utilities. Officials recommend keeping thermostats higher when away from home, closing blinds, and checking on elderly neighbors.
Wednesday and Thursday will bring more of the same, with highs of 98°F and 95°F respectively. The trend slightly cools heading into the weekend, but only marginally — Friday and Saturday will still top out around 93°F to 94°F.
🗓️ Extended Five-Day Outlook (Salt Lake City):
