Utah – The Wasatch Front starts calm and chilly, but changes are already lining up behind the mountains. Skies remain mostly clear this morning with temperatures near 43 degrees at Salt Lake City International Airport. That quiet start won’t last.

A Wind Advisory takes effect this evening from 8 PM through 5 AM Tuesday. South winds increase to 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. Downwind areas near the canyons could see gusts over 55 mph. Loose objects may be tossed around, and isolated power outages are possible. High-profile vehicles on I-80 should use extra caution tonight.

Rain develops late today, then transitions. By Tuesday morning, rain mixes with snow before turning to mostly snow showers. Little accumulation is expected early, but roads could turn slushy during heavier bursts.

Wednesday is the main Winter Weather concern. Snow becomes likely after late morning, with new accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible in the valley. Higher elevations will see more. Temperatures hover near 41 degrees, so surfaces may fluctuate between wet and slick. Watch for brief “flash freeze” spots after sunset as colder air settles in.

Snow showers taper Wednesday night, but scattered snow chances linger into Thursday and Friday. Highs fall into the mid-30s by Thursday and near 35 Friday, reinforcing that February chill.

This storm ties into a larger Western system bringing heavy Sierra Nevada snow and widespread mountain impacts. For Salt Lake City, wind and shifting precipitation types are the key hazards.

Five-Day Outlook for Salt Lake City, Utah:
Tuesday: High 47, rain changing to snow.
Wednesday: High 41, snow likely, 1–2 inches possible.
Thursday: High 36, chance of snow.
