Utah – Snow is already sticking to wet pavement across the Salt Lake Valley, and wind gusts near 50 mph are pushing visibility lower along I-15 and I-80. Roads look damp now, but slushy buildup is spreading quickly, especially on bridges and overpasses. Drivers should expect changing conditions through late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Snow totals between 1 and 4 inches are expected across the valley, with up to 6 inches in the benches. South winds earlier pushed 45 to 55 mph and will shift west as a cold front moves through.

Salt Lake City International Airport reported temperatures in the mid-30s after sunrise. That keeps pavement marginally warm for now. However, snowfall rates may approach 1 inch per hour at times between late morning and mid-afternoon. Visibility could drop below a mile in heavier bursts.

High-profile vehicles on I-80 near Parleys Canyon and along I-15 south toward Draper may feel sudden crosswinds. UDOT warns that slick stretches will develop quickly as temperatures hover near 35 degrees. Plan extra braking distance. Secure loose outdoor items.

Snow tapers this evening, but colder air settles in. Lows fall near 18 degrees tonight, raising the threat of flash freezing where melting occurs before sunset. Untreated roads may turn icy after dark.

Thursday turns mostly sunny with a high near 36. Another chance of snow arrives Thursday night into Friday, with lighter accumulations under an inch. Highs stay in the mid-30s through Friday before climbing toward the low 40s Saturday.

Looking ahead, early next week trends milder. Highs push into the upper 40s and low 50s by Monday and Tuesday, hinting at early spring warmth across northern Utah. Traveling today? Let us know what you’re seeing on your roads.
